We love the gesture of welcoming your out-of-town guests with a special amenity delivered to the room or a gift at check-in.  Here are a few tips on how to make your welcome bag one worth remembering:

1. Choose the Appropriate Size Bag -- The biggest mistake DIYers make is choosing a bag too large for their contents. A small bag, stuffed full, is much more impressive than a few items swimming inside a standard sized gift bag. And remember, you're not limited to a bag. We love boxes and baskets too!

2. Focus on Pretty Packaging -- Look for items with pretty packaging. Our favorite finds are often at stores like Trader Joes, Cost Plus World Market and Whole Foods. Skip the mainstream goodies, and opt for items with beautiful wrappers. It will instantly make your welcome bag feel fancier without any added cost. Our favorites? Chocolove chocolate bars (which come in a variety of flavors and have love poems inside), anything with a vintage looking wrapper (like nostalgic Cracker Jack boxes) and Glee Gum. You should also coordinate your items across a general color palette - it is really easier than you think and a fun way to reintroduce your wedding color palette. Another packaging tip -- choose a small glass bottle of Pellegrino over the plastic store-brand bottled water. Pennies more per bottle, but the small upgrade is always worth it in our opinion.

These small shopping tips won't necessarily cost you any more money, but will increase the perceived value of your bag.

3. Customization -- like your invitation, your welcome bag is another place introduce your wedding design style. Coordinating tags, itinerary cards and labels are a great way to dress up even a standard paper gift bag. The ones pictured above are from one of our favorite DC designers, Little Bit Heart.
