Each year, we get hundreds of inquires about internship opportunities and our coveted Summer Associate positions! This year, for the first time ever, we announced on Instagram that we were looking for a few creative minds to join us! Résumés began pouring in almost immediately, and after a few months of narrowing down the stack and hosting Skype interviews, we finally put together our perfect #SummerSquad! The team has been working diligently all season learning the ins and outs of running a small business in the wedding industry.

Without further ado, we are thrilled to officially introduce you to our 2016 Summer Associates!

Karson Butler Events Summer Associates 2016

Meet the squad...

Genevieve Genevieve Ott

While Johns Hopkins is a school well known for engineering, medicine, and the sciences, Genevieve has carved out a creative, artistic identity for herself, bringing a unique perspective to her community. We love her passion for visual arts—as a graphic designer and filmaker, she views the world with a trained, critically thinking eye.  In her words: "There’s a reason for every cut in a film, and a reason for every placement of text within a graphic. A lot of decision making goes into creating something visually compelling, and I love learning about and leaning on the logic behind these visual decisions." We're excited to see her grow and share her talents this summer! Check out her vimeo.com/genevieveott!

#goals:
Lupita Nyong'o: stylish, intelligent, fearless.

I simply can’t resist…
The Shouts & Murmurs section of The New Yorker.

What show are you currently binging on?
My life is a constant rotation of Friday Night Lights, Breaking Bad, and Rupaul's Drag Race (VERY different things, I know!)

What is something people may not know about you?
I have pretty much no sense of smell from a series of concussions. Luckily, I can still smell floral fragrances!

Where can we find you on a Saturday afternoon?
If I'm not painting, watching old films, and drinking tea, then I'm probably out in the city checking out cool murals and eating street food.

Favorite florals:
There's nothing cheerier or more fun than a pretty, colorful wildflower bouquet!

I’m totally addicted to...
online shopping. I can't stop making carts of stuff I will never buy (or be able to afford!).

Words I use way too often:
I tend to punctuate sentences with "youknowwhatImean?" as all one word. But "aesthetic" is definitely my all-time most used word.

Favorite Snack/Candy:
Chocolate covered pomegranate seeds and Slurpees... not together!

You’re singing in the shower… What’s playing?
"Ignition" by R. Kelly is the worst/best sing-along song.

What are you most excited about during your summer with KBE?
I can't wait to learn from the best and broaden my skill set! Also, I have a feeling this summer is going to step up my Insta game.

What made you fall in love with KBE?
As a part-time graphic designer, it was love at first sight with the stunning logo! Botanical sketches and hand-lettered scripts are my fave.

Who else in our industry inspires you?
I adore gorgeous paper goods, and Bliss & Bone creates such luxe, unique products. They treat the invitation process as a true branding project—love it.

Hannah Helms

While preparing to study abroad in Australia the summer after her freshman year of college, Hannah impulsively decided to sign up for the Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon despite the fact she had never run more than a mile before in her entire life. Embracing the new goal, she devoted herself to training that semester and finished her first half in 2:22. Last summer, while studying  and interning abroad in London, she ran her second with a new PR. She ran her third half in the U.S. last month in 2 hours. Impressive! We love a goal-setter, and Hannah's dedicaton and design talents are certainly going to make her an important part of our squad (and her famous homemade chocolate chip cookies certainly won't hurt!).

Hometown:
Safety Harbor, FL

Education:
University of Florida, B.S. in Public Relations; M.A.M.C. in Web Design and Online Communications

#goals:
1) Run a half marathon on every continent (I've already done North America, Europe and Australia!), 2) Run a marathon, 3) One day qualify for Boston, maybe?

I simply can’t resist…
Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

What show are you currently binging on?
The Office
! It never gets old and Dwight is my spirit animal.

What is something people may not know about you?
I'm good at painting and designing but oddly enough I have absolutely horrible handwriting.

Where can we find you on a Saturday afternoon?
Probably running or exploring with friends—or mentally preparing myself for that night's Saturday Night Live, I've seen every episode since 2008 and even saw it live in New York once!

Favorite florals:
Garden roses will always have a special place in my heart. I studied abroad in London last summer and spent most of my time in the Hyde Park Rose Gardens journaling and picnicking with friends!

I’m totally addicted to...
Gator Football and the good ol' SEC.

Words I use way too often:
I say "alas" a lot after telling stories—which I do a lot because I love to chat!

Favorite Snack/Candy:
Reese's Fast Break. You can only find it at some CVS and Walgreens locations and I always get excited when I see it on the shelf.

You’re singing in the shower… What’s playing?
Hunter Hayes's "Somebody's Heartbreak."

What are you most excited about during your summer with KBE?
Getting to know all of our amazing clients and giving them the best experience possible!

Who else in our industry inspires you?
A little while back, I stumbled upon the Instagram account of David Beahm. I am a lover of flowers, and his events use floral designs in so many interesting ways. He does more than just put bouquets on tables. He'll cover a wall with them, make an animal out of them, put bushes around a room. It really makes me think outside the box when looking at different aspects of designing events. (Good choice - we love David too!!)

Libby

Libby Rasmussen

When we first met Libby, we knew right away that she would be an incredible member of the KBE team. Her bright & colorful view on life reaches far beyond her well-curated blog & Instagram feed: Libby Living Colorfully. She has spread joy in her communities through volunteerism, even at an early age. As a teenager, she regularly volunteered as the lead Prosecuting Attorney for the juvenile Teen Court in her county. Not only was it an opportunity to see and learn from her peers' mistakes, it more importantly helped Libby strip judgment of others, becoming a more accepting and understanding person. She is currently a dedicated member of the Junior League of Washington and spends many Sundays cooking meals for the women at N Street Village, a sober living community for low income and homeless women. Libby will be organizing a KBE day-of service for us once the summer wedding season is over and we can't wait!

Either Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, orrr I’m not going to lie, Drake. Every single morning.

What are you most excited about during your summer with KBE?
Working in corporate law the past 3 years has limited my creative side. I’m thrilled to be able to learn and see how the event planning process unfolds!

What made you fall in love with KBE?
A few years ago, I was online and spotted a stunning southern wedding at the Tuckahoe colonial plantation. I couldn’t get over how perfect it all looked. Of course, it was planned by KBE. Fast forward a few years later, I saw the same dreamy plantation on the Karson Butler Events Instagram. I told myself I needed to meet Emily and Amber. Eight days later, KBE posted an Instagram, looking for a Summer Associate. Fate!

Who else in our industry inspires you?
I really love the "DC crew," if you will. Before I was involved with KBE, I loved looking at Instagram and seeing how many different firms/vendors work together. I will say, I really love and admire the calligraphers. I could watch calligraphy videos on Instagram all night. It's on my yearly bucket list to learn calligraphy so I'm obviously a HUGE fan of Laura Hooper, Michele Hatty Fritz, Kim Kaull, to name a few! I am OBSESSED with Mandy Kellogg Rye, from Waiting on Martha. I save her Snapchats for the end of the day. She's so real, and I love her taste. The Knot is always great. Southern Weddings (I love anything southern) District Weddings, Style Me Pretty, Glitter Guide.

LindsayLindsay Brock

Lindsay Brock is no stranger to following traditions and having big shoes to fill! She's one proud University of Florida Gator, following in her mom, dad, aunts, and uncles footsteps! I can't remember the last day I went without caffeine.

Where can we find you on a Saturday afternoon?
Reading a good magazine at the beach.

"Girly." It's a new trend with my friends and I.

Favorite Snack/Candy:
Any kind of fruit... they're colorful AND yummy!

You’re singing in the shower… What’s playing?
John Mayer. So dreamy!

What made you fall in love with KBE?
Last Fall, I stumbled upon KBE's Instagram account and immediately thought: "Dang, it would be so awesome to work for them!” Then, later that semester, I attended the UF Homecoming Pageant, in which last year’s Summer Associate, Savannah, was participating! I heard her mention that she had interned for KBE the previous summer… I knew I had to apply!

Who else in our industry inspires you?
I absolutely adore Laura Hooper's work. I'm such a sucker for unique scripts and hope to be able to attend one of her workshops while I'm in DC!
