We're so excited to share more of Lauren and Christopher's Fall 2013 Decatur House wedding with you! Featured on Martha Stewart Weddings last month, this wedding was one of our absolute favorites! We loved designing a special celebration that focused on family, friendship, and love.

I had the pleasure of meeting up with our lovely Bride Lauren last week for lunch who was in town from NYC where the couple now resides. It warms my heart when a former client becomes a friend after the wedding day. Our clients are the best! I loved catching up and remembering all the loveliness of this special day.

When we design events, we're most often talking about a feeling, a mood, or an experience versus a specific color or trend. We ask "how do you want your guests to feel" and that helps guide us in the right direction throughout the entire planning and design process. It is hard to select our favorite details from L+C's wedding, but here are few of our favorites:

L & C came to us early in their engagement, and as their full service planner, we immediately began looking at venues.  The Decatur House on Lafayette Square (just steps away from The White House) turned out to be the perfect fit:  it was full of historic charm, had a casually elegant courtyard to add that outdoor element they were hoping for, and was conveniently located next to a handful of hotels and DC attractions - perfect for their out-of-town guests.

Elaine with Papermade was the perfect partner and we were excited to bring her onboard for Lauren & Christopher's paper goods.  A custom sketch of the venue adorned the letterpressed Save-the-Dates and set the tone for a beautiful event.  Each piece in the invitation suite included a quote - perfect for the book-loving bride (a college English professor!) To date, this is one of my all-time favorite invitation suites and currently lives on my inspiration board above my desk in our design studio!

Lauren gifted her bridesmaids fun and festive robes and we can't get enough of this image of the big reveal!  Lauren's bridesmaids are the sweetest and this picture Abby Jiu captured is one we know Lauren will treasure forever!

For both Lauren & Christopher, honoring their families throughout the wedding was super important and made their wedding incredibly special.  Lauren's mother even served as her maid of honor.  How adorable are these pictures?

The courtyard at Decatur House served dual purpose - it was the gorgeous setting for the outdoor ceremony and later the location for dinner & dancing under the stars.  With this in mind, our design plan included a mercury bar focal piece of furniture that served as our ceremony altar and later became the bar.  Sidra Forman's dreamy florals were perfect to round out the elegant-but-not-too-fussy design.  Those dahlia's, the bouquets, everything about these florals have us swooning!

We worked with Design Cuisine to create a one-of-a-kind culinary experience for Lauren & Christopher's guests. Their menu included a salad course with a dressing family recipe, rack of lamb and herb crusted halibut, and a cheese course including Canablu, New Zealand Cheddar, and Danish fontina as a nod to the groom's heritage.  The menu was paired perfectly with Virginia and California wines.  Maggie Austin Cake once again blew us away with her talented creation - her sugar flowers look-oh-so real!  Later in the evening, "What's Your Vice" trays were passed around that including cigars and ice cream sandwiches to satisfy all cravings!

See what we mean?  Hard to pick a favorite detail, right?  Thank you Abby Jiu Photography for these gorgeous pictures and to our entire vendor team for their collaboration.   We were honored be L+C's wedding planners and wish them a lifetime of happiness ahead. XOXO.
